Um Hyun-kyung (엄현경) and Cha Seo-won (차서원), who captivated viewers’ hearts with their on-screen romance, are now a couple in real life and are set to marry with Um Hyun-kyung being pregnant with their first child.
Cha Seo-won is currently fulfilling his military duty as an active-duty soldier in the army since November 22nd last year. The couple plans to hold their wedding ceremony after Cha Seo-won’s discharge next year.
Uhm Hyun-kyung and Cha Seo-won received the Best Acting Award together at the “2021 MBC Drama Awards” for their passionate performances in “The Second Husband.”
Their romantic chemistry was also noticed on television. During their appearance on MBC’s entertainment program “Radio Star” last year, Uhm Hyun-kyung revealed that she recommended Cha Seo-won for the male lead role in “The Second Husband.” Cha Seo-won confessed that he was slightly disappointed when he found out the contact was related to casting, not a personal invitation. When asked if Uhm Hyun-kyung matched his ideal type, he admitted, “Yes,” drawing attention.
Uhm Hyun-kyung recalled a time when she visited Cha Seo-won’s house with colleagues, saying, “He gave us hand warmers before entering the house. It was so cold inside that we all wore padded jackets and drank alcohol together,” which brought laughter. On June 5th, Uhm Hyunkyung’s agency Yeojin Entertainment confirmed the news stating, “It is also true that Uhm Hyunkyung and Cha Seowon will get married. It’s also true that Uhm Hyunkyung is pregnant.”
On the same day, Cha Seowon’s agency Namoo Actors also released an official statement , “Cha Seowon and Uhm Hyunkyung got to know each other through their drama, and after the conclusion of the drama, they developed feelings for each other and started a relationship. The two are dating with marriage in mind, and they will hold their wedding after Cha Seowon is discharged from the military.” The statement concluded, “Amidst this, a precious new life came to the two like a blessing. The two are currently waiting for the new life with caution and gratitude. Please kindly support and watch the two with warmth in the future.”
Uhm Hyun-kyung, born in 1986, is five years older than Cha Seo-won, who was born in 1991. The warm and caring Uhm Hyun-kyung and the younger but reliable Cha Seo-won naturally developed into a couple and nurtured their love.
Uhm Hyun-kyung debuted in the 2006 sitcom “Rainbow Romance” and has since starred in dramas such as “Just Run!,” “Capital Scandal,” and “The Innocent Woman.” She has received recognition for her acting skills through leading roles in “Mother’s Garden,” “Best Wedding,” “All is Well,” “Defendant,” “Single Wife,” “Hide and Seek,” “Ms. Lee,” and “A Man in a Veil.” In “The Second Husband,” she played the role of Bong Sun-hwa, a character with a positive and cheerful personality despite her unfortunate childhood.
Cha Seo-won debuted in the 2013 SBS drama “The Heirs” and has appeared in dramas such as “Sisters-in-Law” and “Liver or Die.” In “Second Husband,” he captivated viewers as the romantic Yoon Jae-min. He also gained the nickname “Romantic Fool” for his quirky yet romantic antics on MBC’s entertainment show “I Live Alone.”
