YG Entertainment, the management agency of the girl group BLACKPINK, announced on the 1st that member Jisoo (김지수) has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be unable to participate in the upcoming Osaka World Tour concert in Japan, scheduled for 3-4 days later.
The statement from YG Entertainment sheds light on the situation, explaining that Jisoo had experienced mild cold symptoms at the end of last month. However, after conducting a self-test, she received a negative result and assumed it was just a minor ailment. Unfortunately, subsequent testing yielded a final positive diagnosis today.
Recognizing the deep disappointment this news will bring to fans, YG Entertainment emphasized that Jisoo had initially displayed a strong determination to fulfill her promise and perform at the concert. However, prioritizing the health and safety of the artist as well as the audience, it was decided that she should refrain from participating in the event.
Consequently, the Osaka World Tour concert on the 3rd and 4th of June will proceed without Jisoo, featuring only the remaining members, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé. YG Entertainment earnestly appealed to the fans, expressing their understanding of the anticipation and assuring that they will spare no effort to deliver a remarkable performance as planned. They also extended a heartfelt request for continuous support and encouragement from the fans.
This unexpected turn of events serves as a reminder of the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the entertainment industry. The health and safety of artists and audiences remain a paramount concern, leading to necessary adjustments and cancellations. As BLACKPINK’s Jisoo focuses on her recovery, fans around the world send their well-wishes and eagerly await her return to the stage, stronger than ever.
