Dior Beauty sparked a heated debate between fans of Blackpink’s Jisoo and Korean netizens on social media regarding the order of images in an official post.
Jisoo’s fans raised objections, claiming that Dior Beauty did not feature Jisoo as the first image among the photos of famous Korean celebrities. Instead, the first image showcased former figure skating national representative Kim Yuna.
On May 28, Dior Beauty promoted the “Miss Dior” exhibition, taking place from May 5 to June 4, by releasing five photos of Korean celebrities on their official social media account. The photos included Kim Yuna, Jisoo, actor Lee Jun-ho, NewJeans Haerin, and actor Jung Hae-in, in that order.
Jisoo’s international fans voiced their discontent, stating that they were dissatisfied with Kim Yuna being featured before Jisoo. They expressed their grievances in the comments, demanding the removal of the post and the reordering of the images to prioritize Jisoo, who is Dior’s global ambassador.
While Jisoo’s fans argue that it is only natural for her to be featured as the first image because of her role as Dior’s global ambassador, there are no set rules that require the global ambassador to be featured first in every post. Furthermore, the official Dior Beauty account uploaded the post, and the decision of the image order rests solely with Dior Beauty.
The reason behind Dior Beauty featuring Kim Yuna before Jisoo remains unknown, but it is not possible to suddenly change the order just because Jisoo’s fans expressed dissatisfaction. Despite Jisoo’s fans requesting a change in the image order from Dior Beauty, their efforts only caused inconvenience for Jisoo.
Korean netizens stood up against Jisoo’s fans, pointing out that in Korea, Jisoo receives criticism while Kim Yuna is revered as a national hero. They emphasized that it is inappropriate to belittle other models just because the favorite star is not featured as the first image. They also highlighted that in Korea, there is hardly anyone who doesn’t know Kim Yuna, even if they may not be familiar with Jisoo.
Jisoo’s international fans seem to have created a competitive atmosphere between Jisoo and figure skating queen Kim Yuna. One wonders if Jisoo will feel apologetic towards Kim Yuna and her Korean fans upon learning about this situation. As this action was initiated by fans, Jisoo cannot personally apologize or remain silent, leaving her in an awkward position with the emergence of a rivalry between her and Kim Yuna.
It is crucial to understand how misguided expressions of affection can burden the artists we love.
