‘Squid Game’ Season 2 has cast actress Park Gyu-yeong as the female lead, according to an exclusive report by Star News on the 23rd. Among the castings announced by Netflix for ‘Squid Game’ Season 2, Park Gyu-yeong is the second female actress alongside Jo Yuri.
‘Squid Game’ is a Netflix series directed and written by Hwang Dong-hyuk, depicting a survival game where participants risk their lives in extreme challenges to become the ultimate winner and claim a prize of 456 billion won.
Season 1 of ‘Squid Game,’ which premiered in September 2021, featured actors such as Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Oh Young-su, Wi Ha-jun, Jung Ho-yeon, Heo Sung-tae, Kim Joo-ryoung, Gong Yoo, and Lee Byung-hun. Within a month of its release, the series garnered over 110 million households worldwide, setting a record as the most-watched Netflix original series.
Netflix previously announced the addition of Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, Gong Yoo, Lim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun as new participants in ‘Squid Game’ Season 2, following their appearances in Season 1. The total production cost for ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 is reported to exceed 100 billion won. After finalizing the casting process, the filming for Season 2 is set to begin in the summer of this year, with a target release date in 2024.
Apart from ‘Squid Game’ Season 2, Park Gyu-yeong is set to appear in the Netflix series ‘Celebrity,’ which will be released on the 30th of this month, and the highly popular series Sweet Home Season 2 and 3. Park Gyu-yeong has played supporting roles for majority of her career, is now deservingly finally getting the lead roles in these mega projects.
